About Us

Pipe Trades Technologies, Inc. (PTT) was founded in 1993 by Herbert L. Fishpaw (Master Plumber/Gasfitter). With the passing of Cross Connection Control & Backflow Prevention laws in the State of Maryland, Herb saw a need for a plumbing training school that specialized in this type of work. PTT obtained its accreditation from the American Society of Sanitary Engineering International (ASSE). Next, PTT was approved by all the governing bodies within the state: Baltimore County Plumbing Board, Maryland Board of Plumbing, and Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). Over the next 20 years in a 400-square-foot school, PTT had two Instructors who taught 4 backflow classes: ASSE Backflow Certification, ASSE Backflow Recertification, Maryland Backflow Certification, and Maryland Backflow Recertification. Herb’s passing in 2013 was a great loss to the Plumbing Industry.

In 2013, Herb’s youngest son, Wayne A. Fishpaw (Master Plumber/Gasfitter/HVACR) along with his wife Shelly Fishpaw continued the next chapter. Shelly and Wayne then expanded the geographical areas PTT served by becoming approved by the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA), Virginia Board for Contractors, and West Virginia Bureau for Public Health. Next, PTT saw a need for additional classes in new areas of training such as a Code & Gas. We offer a Prep Class to prepare apprentices & Journeyman to sit for the Journeyman & Master Plumber/Gasfitter exams for the State of Maryland. PTT has two Gas classes: 2 psig training and a full Gasfitter class. PTT now has a 900-square-foot school at its new location with 5 Instructors/Proctors.
